PROTEST ROCKS ADSU AFTER SECURITY OFFICER BEATS STUDENT

 Five days after 5th-13th combined convocation ceremony of Adamawa State University, Mubi, the students of the institution protest over bullying, harassment and molestation by the security officers of the institution.

The protest was reported to have started when security of the institution drove in their official vehicle at around 11:20PM to NEED 2 of girls’ hostel and allegedly beat male student who was gisting with his girlfriend close to the hostel.

Eye witness reported that the school security officers beat the student after claiming that the said student has breached the school curfew imposed by the management which is purportedly claimed to start by 10pm.

Another issue which has probably attracted the wrath of the rampaging students is the siege laid by the security officers on the broken fence that leads to the main students’ community of the institution, FISHERIES which most of the students prefer as short cut, and what students of the axis see as extortion and broad day robbery of collecting five thousand naira from each student nabbed following those broken fence by the security officers of the institution. 

The teaming students who have being chanting “today we want to collect our right. Securities have been treating us like children; we want to prove them wrong today. We are push to the wall, we are ready to face them to settle the matter of bullying once and for all ’’ while moving in group to the school security division to protest their grievances.

Sources reported that students were seen throwing stones on the security division before securities on night duty applied rules of engagement by using shocking gadgets to disperse the protesting crowd.

Sources also revealed that after the angry students finish pelting the security division of the institution, they were reported to have regrouped at midnight and removed the small gate of GRA after bringing down the fence of that axis and that of the controversial part of FISHERIES.

While speaking to Adsu-Gist under condition of anonymity, one of the protesting student revealed that most of the students of the institution are push to the wall by the draconian and anti-students policies that is imposed on students by the management of the institution. He lamented over the curfew imposed inside the school premises and the executive order to shut down the gates of the school by 10pm, adding further that students have been looking for slightest chance to protest and claim back their rights as students.

Also speaking to Adsu-Gist in confidence, another aggrieved student said that as far as the securities of the institution remain bent on reducing the students of the higher institution into kindergarten students by molesting and bullying them at wish, clash between students and security officers of the institution has finally come to stay. 

Equally important, one of the students who fall prey to the alleged extortion of five thousand naira by the security officers of the institution call on the school management to investigate the broad day robbery, and should as a matter of urgency consider putting second gate at the controversial broken fence that most of FISHERIES students consider as shortcut of passage to school.

All effort to hear from the chief security officer of the institution proved abortive as his line wasn’t connecting during the time of publication of this report.
